Review

This is an interesting change for fans of Camilleri’s Montalbano series. The story is set in Vigata in the 1880s. A stranger comes to town and soon there is a strange sequence of deaths. We have no reason to think that the stranger is the cause of the deaths, and in fact it’s not clear in some cases that the deaths were anything other than unfortunate occurences. But something odd is happening and it’s your job to figure out what.

The translation by Stephen Sartarelli is excellent, as usual. He does a nice job of translating the slang and the smart alecky observations and dialogue that Camilleri is so good at.
