Review

This is the first Lansdale book I’ve read, and I can’t say that I quite understand the enthusiasm I’ve heard about his work. Hap and Leonard are basically Spenser and Hawk, only in rural east Texas and not as well off. There is some funny dialogue, some suspense, the usual level of violent confrontation with scary bad guys, and the smart, competent, and level-headed girlfriend.

Maybe some of the full-length novels are better: I seldom enjoy short fiction, so this collection might not have been the best introduction to the author and these characters.
