Review

This was one of the more enjoyable books I’ve read recently. The characters are entertaining and mostly likeable, at least from a distance. The main character is Massimo, the owner of a bar in a small town on the coast of Tuscany. He’s smart, educated, sarcastic, and grumpy. He’s around 30 years old, and about a year or so out of a relationship that he’s still bitter about. Four of the regulars at the bar are septuagenarians, including Massimo’s grandfather. It’s a small town, so the main entertainment is gossip and card games.

It’s very short and easily read in an afternoon. There are four books in this series, two of which have been translated to English. I am looking forward to reading them all.
